PSC to Consider Reopening Plymouth Reliability Project Application | 1330 & 101.5 WHBL

The last word may not have been spoken after all, as the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin will consider reopening an application for a new power line to serve Plymouth.

The Plymouth Reliability Project, which is intended to meet increasing demands for electricity near the Hub City, had already gained approval, but a letter from Sheboygan County Board Supervisor Suzanne Speltz requesting the PSC consider withholding approval while ordering a full Environmental Impact Statement on the project was accepted for consideration at their next meeting. Speltz pointed to testimony from the group N4N, or Neighbors for Neighbors, which opposed the project, along with statements from Commissioner Marcus Hawkins expressing his struggles justifying the proximity to private homes on the route, and the fact an opposition group was the only one revealing several of the environmental concerns.

The project to construct twin distribution lines would cross numerous residential properties, and clear-cut portions of the 612-acre Nichol’s Creek Wildlife Area as well as land owned by the Glacial Lakes Conservancy, whose charter prevents such action.

On Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the Commission will take up Speltz’s petition to reopen the hearing as part of its agenda. The meeting will be streamed live for those interested in following online.
